Applying God’s Word to the Self,

1. Three important things are revealed in this passage.
a. We must intentionally remember what we know about Him.
b. God expects us to share who He is.

1  Give ear, O my people, to my teaching;

incline your ears to the words of my mouth!

2  I will open my mouth in a parable;

I will utter dark sayings from of old,

3  things that we have heard and known,

that our fathers have told us.

c. Each generation is responsible to share God’s truth for the future.
2. Our response:

a. Purposefully document and meditate on the nature of God.
b. Be prepared and share your testimony with those around you.
c. Humble yourself to be discipled and also disciple another.

1. God’s people must remember what they have heard about God.

2. God’s people must remember their personal experience with God.

3. God’s people must remember what other generations have witnessed about God.

Proclaiming God’s Truth,

4  We will not hide them from their children,

but tell to the coming generation

the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might,

and the wonders that he has done.

4  We will not hide them from their children,

but tell to the coming generation

the glorious deeds of the LORD, and his might,

and the wonders that he has done.

1. True knowledge about God must not be hidden or neglected.

2. The true nature of God and what He has done must be proclaimed.

Passing Knowledge from One Generation to the Next,

5  He established a testimony in Jacob

and appointed a law in Israel,

which he commanded our fathers

to teach to their children,

6  that the next generation might know them,

the children yet unborn,

and arise and tell them to their children,

7  so that they should set their hope in God

and not forget the works of God,

but keep his commandments;

8  and that they should not be like their fathers,

a stubborn and rebellious generation,

a generation whose heart was not steadfast,

whose spirit was not faithful to God.

1. God’s people are commanded to teach God’s law to their children.

2. Knowledge of God is meant to pass from one generation to the next.

3. Each generation should learn from the mistakes and failures of their parents.

Conclusion

1. God expects us to grow in knowledge about Him and in relationship with Him.

2. Our responsibility is to share that knowledge with each other and generations to come.

3. Pour into the next generation so God’s people will be more obedient, steadfast, and

faithful.
